ART & DESIGN

  • Art & Design at LPSS.

At LPSS we follow the English National Curriculum and therefore, across Key Stage 1 and 2, students will use a variety of media to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Time will be dedicated to allow students to learn the skills needed to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. They will also learn how to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design, getting to know about great artists, craft makers and designers.

In Key Stage 3, students will build on the skills they have learnt in the lower key stages and continue to develop their creativity and ideas, increasing proficiency in their execution. They will continue to study a variety of artists and allow this research to inform their own work.

From Year 10, if students choose to take Art and Design at IGCSE level, they will follow the Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design syllabus. This programme allows learners to build on their previous knowledge and skill set, using these in various projects throughout the course. They will gain confidence and enthusiasm as they develop technical skills in a variety of media and composition. They also learn how to develop ideas from initial attempts to final solutions. This course is an ideal foundation for further study, as it also develops a greater awareness of the role played by the visual arts in society and in history, broadening cultural horizons and individual experience.
