Here at LPSS, we are aware of the importance of computer literacy and staying safe when using computers. The computing lessons offered throughout Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 will ensure that pupils are prepared for the digital world we live in. The English National Curriculum that we follow aims to ensure that all pupils can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation. The students are taught how to analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems. It is essential that they learn and develop into responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology. The use of technology safely, respectfully and responsibly is something that is focused on and the children are taught how to recognise acceptable/unacceptable behaviour providing a range of ways to report concerns about content.

From Year 10 LPSS students who choose to can opt to follow the Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science syllabus. This programme builds on the students’ skills learnt previously. They will develop their understanding of the main principles of problem solving using computers. They will be able to apply their understanding to develop computer-based solutions to problems using algorithms and a high-level programming language. Studying Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science will help learners appreciate current and emerging computing technologies, the benefits of their use and recognise their potential risks.

From September 2019, the children in Key Stages 3 & 4 will be introduced to the CISCO networking curriculum as they engage in even more hands-on learning and work towards attaining the CISCO certification.
